Anadarko Peru —operator of Blocks Z-61, Z-62, and Z-63— located in the Trujillo Basin, informed Perupetro of its decision to advance into the third exploration period, which includes drilling its first well in Block Z-62.

This decision confirms the continuation of its deepwater exploration project off the coasts of La Libertad and Lambayeque regions in northern Peru.

Its move into the third exploration period is supported by the results of the 3D marine seismic studies conducted by Anadarko Peru in 2024, which involved the acquisition of data covering 6,018 km², the largest survey in the history of the Pacific coast.

The seismic survey, a key method in oil and gas exploration, made it possible to determine the geological characteristics of the seabed to identify potential hydrocarbon resources in said area.

The drilling of the first exploratory well is scheduled for 2027. Its outcome will be crucial to confirming the hydrocarbon potential identified in the marine seismic studies, which required an estimated US$40 million investment.

The Trujillo Basin holds significant undiscovered potential. If the exploratory work to be carried out in said basin yields favorable results, Peru could be on the verge of a major discovery that would transform its hydrocarbon trade deficit.

With the decision to move into the third exploration period, Anadarko Peru reaffirms its continued investment in the country and its commitment to national energy development, according to Perupetro.

Perupetro is a State-owned company under private law tasked with administering hydrocarbon resources to promote their sustainable exploitation for the country's benefit.
