Peru-France Consultations deepen cooperation in security, trade and infrastructure

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently hosted the 5th Political Consultations Mechanism between Peru and France.

At this event, both countries renewed their commitment to continue strengthening their nearly bicentennial bilateral relationship in priority areas, emphasizing its multidimensional nature and the excellent level of mutual understanding.

During the meeting, both delegations agreed on the need to deepen collaboration on issues related to combating illicit drug trafficking and organized crime, highlighting progress in the negotiation of the police cooperation agreement between the Ministries of Interior of Peru and France.

Similarly, initiatives to strengthen defense and security cooperation mechanisms were discussed.

In the economic and trade sphere, France expressed its willingness to increase trade and investment, and above all to contribute to Peru's efforts to close the infrastructure gap.

Likewise, the upcoming signing of the Convention to eliminate Double Taxation between both countries was welcomed, thereby incorporating a key instrument for the promotion of investment in Peru.

In the field of cooperation, France's commitment to support Peru's accession process to the OECD was reaffirmed, as well as its willingness to further develop the historic ties of cooperation across various aspects of development.

The meeting made it possible to identify shared commitments to work on environmental and climate change issues, confirming the high-level participation of both countries at COP 30.

Furthermore, it was of interest to learn the positions of both countries regarding the CELAC-EU Summit process, with both events scheduled to take place soon.

It is worth noting France's special interest in the teaching and promotion of the French language, particularly within Peru's public education system.

Lastly, both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to international peace and security, respect for international law, and the strengthening of multilateralism, as essential principles for coexistence among nations.

The Peruvian delegation was headed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Director General for Europe, Ambassador Alberto Campana, who was accompanied by senior officials from this sector.

Representing France, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs' Acting Director for the Americas and the Caribbean, Jérôme Audin, participated along with his delegation.
