Peru works on strategies to become more attractive destination for tourists

Peru is working on strategies to become a more attractive destination for international tourists, through the enhancement and creation of new experiences for visitors, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews has reported.

The Cabinet member indicated that said task is performed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

The announcement was made during his presentation at the launch of the APEC 2024 Business Summit, organized by the Peruvian Foreign Trade Society (Comex) and held in Lima on Wednesday. The event was attended by more than 50 business leaders from the country.

"There are major challenges ahead on the side of the supply and demand. To overcome them, it is necessary to articulate efforts in the creation of new tourist experiences and the enhancement of some of them," the government official indicated.

"We have started by investing in tourist security with the aim of guaranteeing a full trip for each visitor," he added.

Last June, Mincetur delivered 41 motorcycles and 3 minibuses to the Peruvian National Police (PNP) to strengthen tourist security in various Peruvian regions, which meant an investment of S/2.56 million (about US$690,054).

"The recent reopening of the Kuelap Archaeological Sanctuary for the public means a step forward in the process of implementing new and improved experiences, since it brings together three of the main trends in the sector in a single destination: sustainable tourism, experiential tourism (travel), and adventure tourism," he indicated.
