Peru welcomed 1,628,148 international tourists during the first half of this year, a 0.7% decline compared to the same period in 2025. However, the figure places the South American country in a better position than in 2019, before the pandemic, according to the
Mincetur noted that the result recorded through June was driven mainly by the arrival of international tourists residing in Chile, which totaled 350,217 visitors and accounted for 21.5% of the total.
The figure, however, marked a 3.9% decline compared to the same period in 2025.
They were followed by the United States, which recorded 320,000 tourists (19.6% of the total and a 3% increase), Ecuador, with 128,000 tourists (7.9% and a 0.3% decline), Bolivia, with 84,000 tourists (5.2% and a 10.9% decline), Colombia, with 83,000 tourists (5.1% and a 9.4% decline), and Brazil, with 82,000 tourists (5% and a 3.9% decline).
It is worth noting that these six countries accounted for 64.3% of the total arrivals recorded during the first half of this year.
Regional blocs
At the regional-bloc level, the arrival of tourists residing in South America accounted for 49.2% of the total (802,591 international tourists).
Likewise, North America accounted for 25% of the total (407,000 tourists), Europe for 16.8% (274,000 tourists), Asia for 4.8% (79,000 tourists), and Central America for 2.7% (44,000 tourists).
Regarding international arrivals into Peru through the various Migration Control Posts, Jorge Chavez International Airport (AIJCH)—the main gateway to Lima—stood out, recording more than one million international tourists and accounting for 65.5% of the total.
It was followed by the Santa Rosa Border Control Post in Tacna, which recorded the entry of 259,000 tourists (15.9%); the Tumbes Binational Border Service Center, which received 117,000 tourists (7.2%); and the Desaguadero/Carancas/CEBAF Border Control Post in Puno, which registered 73,000 tourists (4.5%).
Main tourist attractions
Mincetur highlighted that the Lima-based Magic Water Circuit remained the country's most visited tourist attraction between January and May 2026, receiving 1,133,764 people.
This figure represented 78.6% of the level recorded during the same period in 2019. Of the total, 95% were domestic visitors and 5% were foreign tourists.
The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu ranked second, welcoming 521,771 visitors.
This figure represented an 8.4% decline compared to the same period in 2025 and reached 88.7% of the level recorded between January and May 2019.
Of the total, 81.4% of the visitors were foreign tourists, while 18.6% were domestic travelers.
