Peru: Waldir Ayasta Mechan sworn in as new Energy and Mines Minister

Waldir Eloy Ayasta Mechan was sworn in on Monday as the new Minister of Energy and Mines in a ceremony led by President Jose Maria Balcazar at the Government Palace in Lima.


In this context, Ayasta Mechan joins the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Luis Arroyo Sanchez.

Earlier, the Cabinet chief referred to the appointment of the new sector's head, noting that he will have a technical profile.

"It is already decided. The profile is technical. We are a technical cabinet that has come to work hard over these four months, and we will put in every effort," he pointed out hours earlier.

Background

The new minister is a mechanical-electrical engineer who graduated from Pedro Ruiz Gallo National University.

He holds a specialization in Senior Business Management from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (Mexico).

Ayasta Mechan holds a master's degree in Strategic Business Management from the National University of Callao, where he also earned a doctorate in Administration.

Previously, he served as Deputy Minister of Electricity, Director General of Rural Electrification, and Corporate Manager of Planning and Investment Projects at Electronortemedio Regional Public Electricity Company S.A., among other positions.
