Peru: Visitor capacity at Machu Picchu to be increased during Holy Week

09:58 | Cusco (Cusco region), Mar. 22.

The Peruvian Ministry of Culture has exceptionally approved the increase in the visitor capacity at the Llaqta of Machu Picchu from 4,500 to 5,000 people per day, on March 28, 29, 30 and 31.

This was approved by Ministerial Resolution No. 000118/2024-MC, published on Friday in El Peruano Official Gazette.

The regulation indicates that the sale of 500 additional tickets per day will be available via the virtual platform (tuboleto.cultura.pe) from Monday, March 25, until stock is depleted.

This is a pilot plan aimed at evaluating the dynamic capacity to be applied in the coming months.

In addition, this is due to the preservation work being done and the installation of video surveillance cameras, which will offer better control of visitors.

Precisely, March 28, 30, and 31 coincide with the observance of Holy Week in Peru.

Nevertheless, you can also buy tickets in person at Machu Picchu Cultural Center, where 1,000 tickets are available per day.

How to purchase tickets to Machu Picchu

It should be noted that the tickets available at Machu Picchu Cultural Center allow you to visit the ruins the next day. Therefore, it is important that you get a queue ticket in the morning and present it in the afternoon, starting at 3:00 p.m. m., in order to buy your entrance ticket to the Inca citadel.

The prices of the tickets, at a promotional rate, for Peruvian visitors and members of the Andean Community (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia), are S/32 (about US$8.6) for adults and S/16 (about US$4.3) for higher education students and minors between 3 and 17 years old. This applies for the following entry times: 6:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m. m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.

Rates

The rates for national visitors and citizens of the Andean Community (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia), at other times, are S/64 (about US$17.3) for adults, and S/32(about US$8.6) for higher education students and minors between 3 and 17 years old.

Meanwhile, the general rate for foreign visitors is S/152 (about US$11.1) for adults, S/77 (about US$20.8) for higher education students, and S/70 (about US$18.9) for minors between 3 and 17 years old.
