The
Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) has set up two more towers with 840 additional beds at the Pan American Village in order to face the third wave of coronavirus infections, thus totaling 2,478 beds at the COVID-19 Temporary Attention and Isolation Center located in Lima's El Salvador district.
On Thursday morning,
EsSalud Executive-President Mario Carhuapoma presented the start-up of two additional towers —there are six in total now— which represents a 50% increase in the coverage of ICU beds at said health center.
"
The Pan American Village is available to all Peruvians who have already received a diagnosis and timely detection. We ask people not to mistake the symptoms of coronavirus for common cold or seasonal flu due to climate change. Therefore, they need to complete an online triage before going to a testing center," the EsSalud head stated.
In this regard, Carhuapoma called on the population to take civic and social responsibility for self-care so as not to overwhelm the country's health system.
"Contact specialists only if you have symptoms, and you will be given an appointment to get a COVID-19 test after completing an online triage," the EsSalud executive-president explained.
"We have enough antigen and molecular tests, but we should not overload the 107 hotline; we should call only if it can be justified," he added.
Carhuapoma noted that EsSalud has been working in a collaborative and coordinated manner with the
Ministry of Health (Minsa) at the national level so as to ensure timely and early detection of new COVID-19 cases and thus determine the appropriate treatment.
In this sense, he urged the population to adhere to the restrictive measures adopted by the Government of
President Pedro Castillo, noting that "health is the most valuable asset" for human beings.
