Peru: Traditional, non-traditional exports up 11.4% in 2022

16:47 | Lima, Feb. 13.

Peruvian traditional and non-traditional exports in 2022 exceeded those in 2021, boosted by higher volumes and better prices of the former and the increase in shipped volumes of the latter, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) has reported.

Non-traditional shipments amounted to US$18.232 billion in 2022, experiencing a growth of 11.4% compared to 2021.

"This result was explained by greater exports (up 3.8%) due to the rise in the shipment of non-metallic mineral, iron-steel, and farming products, as well as to better average prices (+7.2%)," it explained.

According to the BCR, traditional shipments reached US$47.348 billion last year, up 1.6% from 2021.

This increase was led by higher export volumes of copper, oil and derivatives, natural gas, and coffee.

December sales

In monthly terms, non-traditional exports totaled US$1.834 billion in December 2022, a 1.6% rise over the same month in 2021.

Whereas traditional sales amounted to US$4.193 billion, which represented a year-on-year decrease of 8%.

Last 10 years

Over the last 10 years, total exports went from US$47.4 billion to US$65.8 billion, registering an annual average growth rate of 3.3%.

Thus, the export value grew by US$18.4 billion in 2022 compared to 2012.
