Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer emphasized that Peru will continue to maintain its firm and unwavering position of demanding respect for the will expressed by the Venezuelan people in the presidential elections.

The fact that electoral records have not yet been presented is evidence of serious irregularities, the minister noted.

"Therefore, we do not recognize these results. We strongly condemn the arbitrary detentions and political persecution suffered by our Venezuelan brothers, particularly those who oppose the Maduro regime, and we reject the arrest warrant against Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia," Schialer stated.

In this regard, the diplomat said that what is happening in Venezuela is of utmost importance for Peru and the region, and is also of the greatest concern.

For this reason, Peru reiterates once again that it will continue to support the Venezuelan people in their struggle for democracy and freedom.

As is known, career diplomat
Elmer Schialer was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs last Tuesday.
He replaces Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea in the post.
