President Keiko Fujimori stated today that Peru is assuming the pro tempore presidency of the Andean Community (CAN) for the 2026–2027 term, with the goal of strengthening regional integration and addressing the primary challenges facing member countries—most notably transnational organized crime and the El Niño phenomenon.

Upon receiving the pro tempore presidency from her Ecuadorian counterpart, Daniel Noboa, during a ceremony at the Government Palace, the President noted that her administration will also focus on promoting trade, investment, and integration in the air and port sectors among the Andean Community’s member nations.

The President expressed her appreciation to Ecuador and its president for their leadership of the bloc over the past year and for their commitment to strengthening Andean integration.

“I am honored to accept, on behalf of Peru, the pro tempore presidency of the Andean Community for 2026–2027. I wish to express my sincere appreciation to Ecuador and its president for their stewardship of this mechanism over the last year and for their dedication to bolstering Andean integration,” she stated.

The head of state highlighted that, over the course of 57 years, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Bolivia have built one of the most robust integration processes in Latin America, featuring a free-trade zone, shared regulations, and a unified community legal framework.

“I believe we must capitalize on the current political climate and the aligned visions shared by our four governments, translating this perspective into tangible results for our people,” she emphasized.

President Keiko Fujimori also stated that Peru assumes this responsibility with a commitment to preserve the progress already achieved and to deepen cooperation among member countries, with the goal of consolidating the Andean Community (CAN) as a vehicle that contributes to the development and well-being of its citizens.

She also proposed the objective of inviting other members to join this integration effort.

“Count on Peru to lead this process,” she remarked.

Daniel Noboa expresses confidence in President Fujimori’s leadership

For his part, the President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, highlighted that the fight against terrorism and organized crime was one of his country’s top priorities during its tenure as *pro tempore* president of the Andean Community.

He underscored the importance of maintaining coordination among member countries to confront threats such as arms trafficking, illegal mining, human trafficking, and money laundering.

The Ecuadorian leader wished Peru every success in its role as *pro tempore* president and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continue advancing these initiatives, alongside the other member nations, to address challenges related to security, development, and the well-being of their peoples.

“I am fully confident that, under President Fujimori’s leadership, this *pro tempore* presidency will be more proactive and more focused on solidarity—but also firmer against the organizations and individuals who seek to destroy our society and harm the future of our youth,” he stated.

The ceremony for the handover of the *pro tempore* presidency of the Andean Community took place within the framework of the Presidential Meeting and the 17th Peru-Ecuador Binational Cabinet.

President Daniel Noboa presented the Andean Community banner to President Keiko Fujimori, symbolizing the transfer of the *pro tempore* presidency of the organization.

The event was attended by the President of the Council of Ministers, Luis Galarreta, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Espá. ...and Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rogers Valencia.

Representing Ecuador were the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Roberto Kury, and the Minister of Economic and Productive Development, Bernardo Cordovez.

Also present was the Secretary General of the Andean Community, Gonzalo Gutiérrez.
