This will be a key year to consolidate mining investment recovery and strengthen Peru's role as a strategic global supplier of minerals, Deputy Mines Minister Carlos Talavera announced.

"This year, the start of execution is planned for eight mining projects, representing an estimated investment of US$7.619 billion; this marks a new phase of momentum for the sector, with significant positive impacts on production, employment, productive linkages, and tax revenues," Talavera emphasized.

These include Colquijirca Replacement and Huaron Expansion projects (Pasco region); San Rafael Replacement and Corani projects (Puno); Zafranal, Cerro Verde Optimization, and Pampa de Pongo (Arequipa); in addition to the Huancapeti Expansion project (Ancash).

The deputy minister stressed that this is a mature project portfolio, made up of initiatives that have already passed the critical stages of the investment cycle.

The government official added they are now in advanced feasibility and detailed engineering phases.

"This reduces levels of uncertainty and allows their start of execution to be projected with greater clarity," Talavera emphasized.

He underscored that these projects are located across various Peruvian regions, reaffirming the decentralized nature of mining and its capacity to drive territorial development.

"For the (Peruvian) State, this scenario entails the challenge of providing technical support to these processes, ensuring regulatory predictability, as well as promoting responsible and sustainable execution," Talavera stated.

He concluded by highlighting that Peru currently has exceptional conditions to continue leading the production of strategic minerals, attract new investments, and consolidate its position as an indispensable player in the global energy transition.

Remarks were made during a presentation recently delivered at the Peruvian Engineers Association headquarters (CIP) in Lima.
