Peru strengthens trade and investment agenda with Asia-Pacific and U.S.

Peru strengthened its trade, investment, and engagement agenda with strategic markets such as the United States and the Asia-Pacific region during the High-Level Week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session in New York City, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported.

Within this framework, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rogers Valencia participated on Tuesday in various high-level meetings as a member of the official Peruvian delegation accompanying President Keiko Fujimori.

As part of this agenda, Valencia, alongside Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa, attended the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Pacific Alliance and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)—the main high-level dialogue forum between the two blocs.

There, Peru proposed more targeted and results-oriented cooperation for the 2027–2031 period, with an emphasis on digital economy; regional integration; micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs); and greater business participation in regional and global value chains.

The Mincetur head also participated in the panel "Latin America's Critical Minerals Opportunities," organized by Citibank.

At this event, representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Peru discussed the opportunities offered by the region's critical minerals and the mechanisms needed to mobilize large-scale financing toward this strategic sector.

The agenda included his participation in an event at the Atlantic Council in New York, which brought together political and business leaders, investors, and representatives of multilateral organizations.

There, the global economic outlook and investment opportunities were discussed, helping strengthen Peru's positioning among U.S. economic stakeholders.

In the business sector, Minister Valencia held a meeting with Walmart executives, during which trade and market access opportunities for Peru's exportable supply were addressed.

"In this way, Peru's participation in New York helped strengthen ties with Asia-Pacific and the United States, promote new investment opportunities, and project the country as a strategic trading partner in sectors with high growth potential," Mincetur pointed out.
