Around 6,000 vulnerable people in Lima's San Juan de Miraflores district —who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic— will receive food for six weeks, thanks to the support of the
Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
KOICA Peru, in collaboration with the
Korea Food for Hungry International (KFHI), launched the "Cocina para la Comunidad" (Cooking for the Community) project, which will distribute an amount of food equivalent to two daily meals (breakfast and lunch), taking into account the calories and essential nutrients required under the Sphere standards.
During the ceremony, KOICA Peru Director Jung Wook Lee highlighted that this crisis would turn into an opportunity with the commitment of all Peruvians.
"If all the participants in the project adhere to health and social distancing guidelines, showing an attitude of mutual confidence and cooperation, we will be able to turn this huge crisis, which hits Peru and the world, into an opportunity," he indicated.
The KOICA Peru head thanked Korea Food for Hungry International (KFHI) Country Director of Peru Kim Jung Won and Food for the Hungry (FH) Country Director of Peru Noemi Gamonal.
In addition, the event featured Emilia Drago, representative of the Human Settlements Steering Committee.
Koica Peru has supported the South American nation in the fight against COVID-19 by donating rapid test kits to the Ministry of Health (Minsa), conducting virtual seminars for medical staff, and now through the "Cooking for the Community" project.
