Since January 1, 2024, more than 4.6 million attacks on the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC) database and various data sources have been blocked.

Those attacks were initially aimed at accessing Peruvians' data, generating saturation of the entity's computer servers, and affecting the normal unfolding of services provided to citizens.

In addition to the cyberattacks on RENIEC, there was an intense and unusual activity of queries made to the biometric system by telecommunications operating companies.

More than 200,000 queries per day have been detected in the past 72 hours alone, the institution reported on Thursday evening.

Given these facts, RENIEC requested the Peruvian National Police (PNP) High Technology Crime Investigation Division (DIVINDAT) to intervene in the Information Technology offices.

Similarly, entities that rely on agreements with RENIEC to conduct biometric inquiries have been required to act urgently and redouble the security of their computer systems.

RENIEC reaffirms its commitment to continue safeguarding the information of all Peruvians and guaranteeing the services provided to citizens, as well as to State-run and private entities.
