Peru played a prominent role at the
, held in Busan (Republic of Korea) from July 16 to 29, as the only Latin American country serving on the committee.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that, during the session, the Committee adopted decisions regarding the state of conservation of the three Peruvian World Heritage properties under review: the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, the Chan Chan Archaeological Zone, and the Historic Centre of Arequipa.
The government agency highlighted that these decisions recognize the efforts undertaken by the Peruvian State to protect and manage these properties, while also representing significant support for the measures implemented to safeguard their outstanding universal value.
Peru examined the main issues related to the implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention, including reports on the state of conservation of listed properties and the evaluation of 33 new nominations for inscription on the World Heritage List.
The Ministry underscored that the Peruvian delegation played an active role in promoting dialogue and building consensus among the Committee's member states during the deliberations.
Additionally, it supported several initiatives of interest to countries in the region, promoting consensus-based solutions to help preserve World Heritage and strengthen the implementation of the 1972 Convention.
Meanwhile, alongside the official sessions, Peru organized an event dedicated to Río Abiseo National Park in partnership with the World Monuments Fund.
A documentary on conservation efforts at this iconic Peruvian site, inscribed on the World Heritage List, was also presented.
"Peru's participation in this important meeting reaffirms the Peruvian State's commitment to protecting humanity's cultural and natural heritage and strengthens the country's image as a constructive actor committed to international cooperation and consensus-building within UNESCO," the Ministry emphasized.
