The event takes place from May 8 to 12 at the UN headquarters in New York City.
This session covers technical discussions and exchange of experiences on thematic priorities for the 2023-2024 period among Forum members, the
Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), major groups, regional and sub-regional organizations, plus other stakeholders.
At the session, Peru's commitment to strategic actions for the Restoration of Forest Ecosystems and Degraded Lands was highlighted. The initiative seeks to restore 330,000 hectares of ecosystems and forest lands during a period of 10 years.
Similarly, the implementation of the Functional Satellite Monitoring Unit, by the
National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor) to carry out continuous monitoring of deforestation due to land use change and the detection of forest fires and early warnings, was highlighted.
During the inter-sessional period, Peru presented its Voluntary National Contributions to the
UNFF for the first time.
Similarly, our country participated in the pilot stage for the use of the amended format for the presentation of voluntary national reports, and has been actively contributing to information requests within the framework of preparations for the mid-term review of the
International Agreement on Forests (IAF), which will take place next year.
Peru ranks ninth in forest extension around the world, the fourth in tropical forests, and the second country with the largest extension of Amazonian forests -after Brazil.
In this sense, it is aware of the important ecosystem services provided by forests and their role in preserving biodiversity and mitigating climate change.

It was created in 2000 and constitutes a high-level intergovernmental political forum that seeks to strengthen commitment and political action on issues related to the conservation and sustainable management of all types of forests.
