The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Monday urged students to report cases of physical and emotional aggression that may occur at educational institutions in order to remove those responsible, as she stressed that over 400 people have been dismissed from the education sector for committing such crimes.

"We will not tolerate people with such backgrounds being around our students; we will not allow that," she stated during the ceremony marking the inauguration of Los Proceres Bicentennial School in Lima's Santiago de Surco district.

"We have removed 439 people from their posts in the educational field who have committed serious crimes, such as sexual assault and terrorism, among others," she noted.

In this regard, the top official urged people affected by such acts or who witness them to "file the appropriate complaints" since the aim is to make educational institutions safe places.

"We will remove teachers and administrative staff who attack us or attempt to threaten our physical and emotional integrity," she expressed while addressing Los Proceres School pupils.

Regarding this infrastructure, Mrs. Boluarte indicated that it is the result of "collaborative work by the Government, the private sector, and international cooperation."

She added that its implementation has entailed an investment worth S/77 million (about US$20.59 million).

This will enable 2,500 students to attend classes in 45 classrooms; five rooms will be equipped with laptops and interactive screens, three creative workshops, two science and technology laboratories, and a library.

Other projects

The president said that S/1.33 billion (about US$355 million) has so far been allocated for the implementation of 20 Bicentennial Schools in Metropolitan Lima, where more than 30,000 students are enrolled.

"By December we will have delivered 31 more schools in Lima; in 2025, 44 more will be delivered in Lima and nine regions for (the benefit of) more than 118,000 students," she announced.

Mrs. Boluarte also reported that 26 comprehensive modular schools will be built in rural areas with resources amounting to S/200 million (about US$53.5 million).

Three high-performance schools will be inaugurated in Ancash, Tacna, and Moquegua regions as well.
