Peru: President led award ceremony for Peruvians dominating surfing at Bolivarian Games

The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, led the award ceremony for the Peruvian athletes who won medals in various surfing categories, both men's and women's, held at the Punta Rocas High-Performance Center (CAR) in Lima’s Punta Negra district on Sunday.

Thanks to the athletes' outstanding performance, Team Peru added 14 more medals, placing it third in the medal table with a total of 142, behind only Colombia (193) and Venezuela (154), respectively.

The Head of State decorated Lucca Mesinas (gold) and Alonso Correa (silver) in men's shortboard.

Meanwhile, Sol Aguirre (gold) and Arena Rodriguez (bronze) were honored in the women's division.

The top official also presented medals in men's longboard to Luca Garrido Lecca (gold) and Piccolo Clemente (bronze).

In men's SUP Surf, Sebastian Gomez (gold) and Tamil Martino (bronze) reached the podium.

Additionally, Maria Fernanda Reyes won gold in women's longboard; Solange Chia earned bronze in women's bodyboard; and Cristopher Bayona claimed gold in men's bodyboard.

The awards were completed by Itzel Delgado (gold) and Andres Rodriguez (bronze), representatives in SUP race.

A day of patriotism

Earlier on Sunday, President Jeri attended the 4K fellowship run held ahead of the upcoming 201st anniversary of the Battle of Ayacucho, commemorated every December 9, and the Peruvian Army Day, also observed on the same date.

The ceremony was also attended by Defense Minister Cesar Diaz; Army's General Commander Cesar Briceño; and Peruvian National Police (PNP) General Commander Oscar Arriola, among other military authorities.

Afterwards, President Jeri attended the second grand parade for the 165th anniversary of the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru (CGBVP).

It was held in Lima's Magdalena del Mar district and saw the presence of Mayor Francis Allison, Congresswoman Kira Alcarraz, and CGBVP Commander Juan Carlos Morales.
