The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, on Friday led early-morning enforcement operations at several locations across the capital to strengthen controls on motorcycles carrying two riders, as part of the ongoing state of emergency in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao region.

Since January 20, a ban has been in force on two people traveling on a motorcycle in areas declared under a state of emergency.

Therefore, sanctions have been applied in accordance with the regulations in force since January 21.

Within this framework, the Head of State traveled to the Costa Verde area, near Marbella Beach in Magdalena del Mar district, where he supervised the operation carried out by the Peruvian National Police.

At this site, the operation included checks on motorcycle traffic, as well as supervision of cars and other vehicles, with the aim of strengthening public security measures and efforts to combat crime.

Likewise, identity checks were conducted to identify individuals with outstanding warrants.

Subsequently, the President arrived in Chorrillos district, near Agua Dulce Beach, where he continued to lead the enforcement operations.

At both locations, the police carried out enforcement actions against dozens of motorcycle riders who were not complying with the current regulation.

In this regard, the President said that a certain level of unawareness still persists among part of the population regarding the ban on two people riding on a motorcycle.

Thus, the top official underscored the importance of strengthening public information and enforcement to ensure compliance with the measure given the urgency the situation demands.

"Ignorance of the regulation does not excuse noncompliance. However, it is possible to observe that some of the individuals stopped showed confusion due to a lack of information. This situation must be assessed in order to measure the effectiveness of the measure over time. Nevertheless, the government has already made a decision, and the restriction on two people traveling on a single motorcycle is fully in force," he emphasized.

President Jeri also supervised at the police station in Lince district the seizure of explosives, drugs, mobile phones, firearms, and extortion-related material recovered by law enforcement agents.

Thus, the Head of State reaffirmed that these blows against crime provide grounds for optimism to continue combating criminal activity with firmness, the Presidential Office reported on its social media channels.

Last Thursday, President Jeri presented the citizen security results after three months in office.

"We see that the State's collective strategy, driven by the government, is beginning to yield results. These are not opinions; they are statistics," he said at a press conference.
