The
President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, on Wednesday announced measures aimed at improving pensions and expanding care services for older adults.
"I want you to live this stage of your lives with peace of mind and dignity. That is why my commitment to you is very clear: we will ensure that you have a guaranteed, fairer pension, more humane care, and greater access to what you are entitled to," Fujimori stated.
During an event recognizing those who devoted a large part of their lives to work and Peru's development, the President addressed the pensioners in attendance.
The Head of State highlighted the value of their life experience, knowledge, and the contributions they continue making to their families and society.
"You have worked your entire lives. You have woken up early, followed schedules, built businesses, and worked at offices, schools, hospitals, and so many other places. You are an experience that inspires," she expressed.
Referring to the economic protection of this segment of the population, the top official reaffirmed her Government's commitment to advancing toward better conditions for pensioners.
In this regard, the President estimated that improvements in the pensions of older adults nationwide, including Pension 65 program beneficiaries, would begin to be seen starting in 2027.
Moreover, she said that, after speaking with Economy and Finance Minister Elmer Cuba, she could announce that the number of Yuyaq Pensioners' House locations—which currently totals 12 across the country—would also double starting next year.
The decision was announced after the testimony of Genoveva Martinez, a pensioner at the Yuyaq location in Lima's San Juan de Miraflores district, who —on behalf of her fellow pensioners— described how these spaces allow them to stay active, learn, and feel supported.
"That is why I consider it important for spaces like Yuyaq to exist and to be expanded. We know they are needed throughout Peru," she said.
The President stated that National Older Adults Day represents an opportunity to recognize older adults' life experience and reaffirm the State's commitment to ensuring that this segment of the population has a dignified life.
"The success of the Economy and Finance Minister's administration will also provide an opportunity in the future to improve pensions—not only yours, but also those of people who did not have access. We are also referring to the Pension 65 program," she indicated.
During the event at Government Palace, special recognition was given to three centenarian pensioners: Pedro Caycho Bravo, 100; Dora Ortega Ramos, 102; and Ricardo Hidalgo Matos, 103.
Commitment to a dignified elder life
In turn, Economy and Finance Minister Elmer Cuba assured pensioners that the Peruvian State will continue to ensure that their payments are made and assess improvements to the pension system.
"Rest assured that your pension will always be ready at the end of every month. That is guaranteed. In recent years, the Peruvian State has also made significant efforts to gradually improve minimum pensions. That is always on the table, and it will continue to be done," he stated.
Afterwards, Pension Normalization Office (ONP) Executive President Gaston Remy emphasized that the care of older adults holds a priority place on the public agenda.
Remy also highlighted the scope of the "Caring for Experience" policy.
"That is why the President's announcement establishing a Third State Policy called 'Caring for Experience' is of particular importance," Remy stated.
"Its purpose is to guarantee timely healthcare, support, economic security, and spaces for social integration for our older adults," he added.
In addition to the aforementioned officials, the Head of State was accompanied by Ministers Maritza Canales (Development and Social Inclusion) and Maria Seminario (Women and Vulnerable Populations).
Remarks were made during the "National Older Adults Day: Experience that Inspires" ceremony held at Government Palace in Lima.
The commemoration of National Older Adults Day highlighted the experience, contributions, and active participation of this segment of the population.
In Peru, people aged 60 and over represent 14.8% of the population, equivalent to approximately 5.05 million citizens, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) 2025 National Census.
