The
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday morning met with eight regional governors who were recently elected in the Regional and Municipal Elections held on October 2.
The meeting saw the participation of Roel Sanchez (Arequipa), Wilfredo Oscorima (Ayacucho), and Jorge Chavez (Loreto), among other governors.
The event took place at the Caceres Hall of the Government Palace in Lima.
Soon after he cast his vote during the October 2 elections, the Head of State said that he would work hand-in-hand with the new regional and local authorities in order to close social gaps in the country.
Similarly, the top official thanked the outgoing mayors and regional governors for their work during times of COVID-19 and requested them to work until the last day in office.
Besides, the President called for prudence, responsibility, and respect to prevail following the results that will emerge from the polls.
"We are here to unite the three levels of government (national, regional, and local), to form a single front and close gaps," Mr. Castillo expressed.
Furthermore, the top official said he hopes to form a national front with the new authorities so as to combat corruption.
"The people need their authorities," he affirmed at that time.
