Peru: President Balcazar receives situation report in Arequipa following heavy rainfall

The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, is leading a series of actions in Arequipa region to address the emergency caused by heavy rainfall.

Within this framework, he received the corresponding situation report from regional authorities on Wednesday.

Via social media, the Presidential Office highlighted the coordinated actions between the national and regional governments to tackle the emergency.

"Alongside State ministers, President Jose Maria Balcazar received a briefing from regional authorities on the situation and the impacts recorded in Arequipa," a statement said on X.


Similarly, it underscored that the meeting between the Head of State and Arequipa authorities made it possible to coordinate efforts and define a roadmap for response actions.

The aim is to ensure that assistance reaches the population in a timely manner, along with the necessary logistics, it noted.


Among the measures ordered by the Executive Branch is the declaration of a state of emergency in several districts of the southern area. This measure also includes the Ocucaje district, Ica region.

Posthumous tribute in Arequipa

Upon arriving in Arequipa, President Balcazar paid posthumous tribute to three of the four crew members of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) Mi-17 helicopter that crashed on Sunday, February 22.

"It was an act of honor and profound respect for the memory of those who served the country with courage and commitment," the Presidency of the Republic of Peru underscored on X.
