Peru's growing potential in renewable energy has opened a new cooperation and investment agenda with Brazil.
The State-run Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion), affiliated with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), held a meeting with the Brazil-Peru Chamber of Commerce (Cambraper) and a Brazilian business delegation specializing in energy.
On this occasion, it presented investment opportunities to develop pilot projects, innovation, and new solutions for harnessing renewable energy.
Brazil has extensive experience in solar, wind, and hydropower generation.
Therefore, ProInversion presented opportunities for companies from the neighboring country to participate in the development of new projects and contribute technology, innovation, and expertise.
It also explained the Agency's role as a bridge between the State and investors, from identifying opportunities to structuring and promoting projects under Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Projects in Assets (PAs).
In the energy sector, ProInversion has awarded 55 transmission lines, helping strengthen the reliability of electricity supply, reduce losses through very-high-voltage lines, and improve energy distribution among the country's different regions.
Investment portfolio
During the meeting, ProInversion also presented its overall investment portfolio across various economic sectors, as well as the benefits of the Special Regime for Early Recovery of General Sales Tax, a mechanism that can provide liquidity and facilitate the financing of investment projects.
The portfolio includes seven electricity and irrigation projects worth over US$7 billion, including Groups 2 and 3 of the 2025–2034 Transmission Plan, the Las Joyas Photovoltaic Power Plant (generation), the new Olmos concession, the third stage of Chavimochic, Chinecas, and Majes Siguas II.
Interest from Brazilian businesspeople
The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange proposals and gauge the interest of Brazilian businesspeople in learning more about the opportunities available in Peru.
According to ProInversion, these meetings represent a starting point for turning international interest into concrete projects, strengthening ties with the private sector, and moving toward greater energy and economic integration in South America.
