Peru: PCM highlights dialogue on Seven Colors Mountain management

13:16 | Cusco (Cusco region), Jun. 29.

The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) reported that the Chillihuani farming community and the Llaqto sector agreed that a commission will temporarily take over the collection of admission fees to the Mountain of Seven Colors–Vinicunca, one of the leading tourist destinations in Cusco region and Peru.

The commission will perform this role until the registration process for the Transitional Tourism Committee with the Public Registry is completed.

This ensures the continued management of the funds while the formalization process for the new governing body is completed.

The establishment of the Transitional Tourism Committee was agreed upon last March and ratified during a meeting convened this month by the PCM's Social Management and Dialogue Secretariat.

This agreement is part of efforts to establish a participatory and transparent management model for this major tourist attraction.

The PCM highlighted the willingness to engage in dialogue and reach consensus demonstrated by the Chillihuani farming community and the Llaqto sector, which will help strengthen the tourist attraction’s governance and contribute to the economic development of the communities involved.

It also reaffirmed the National Government's commitment to continuing to promote coordination and dialogue among the communities, as well as the relevant authorities to establish sustainable management of Vinicunca, foster local development, and prevent potential social conflicts.

The meeting brought together representatives from all three levels of government, the Ombudsman's Office, local authorities, and community members from both localities.

They reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and consensus-building to ensure the orderly management of the Mountain of Seven Colors.
