Peru currently participates in the "Regional Conference on the Social and Humanitarian Impact of Autonomous Weapons" in Costa Rica.
Minister Gonzalo Voto Bernales and
Counselor Angel Horna Chicchon represent Peru at this event, the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported.
The government agency indicated that our country seeks to promote the urgent negotiation of a legally-binding international instrument, with prohibitions and regulations, regarding lethal autonomous weapons systems.
The aforementioned conference is held in Caton de Belon, Costa Rica, on February 23-24.
Social organizations, diplomatic authorities, and others participate in this regional dialogue in which the humanitarian and social impacts of autonomous weapons are discussed, as well as the challenges that said type of weapons pose to peace, security, and humanitarian law.
