has called on Fuerza Popular and Peru Libre —the parties of the two presidential candidates in the runoff election— to accept the electoral results reflecting the popular will of the electorate.
He invited both parties' representatives to be present at voting tables, where votes will be cast and counted, and at the 104 counting centers where the ballot records will be processed.
"I encourage both parties to learn about what we do and I urge them to accept the results, whatever they are, because these are the rules of democracy," Corvetto stated.
The ONPE's chief emphasized that polling station members are responsible for counting the votes and for recording information on such process in the ballot records.
Based on what has happened in previous processes, he explained that the ballot records will be gathered in five phases.
In the first phase, the counting centers usually receive the records from polling stations that are less than an hour away.
Then, comes the receipt of material from polling stations in urban areas, which are a little further away.
The packages coming from polling places in rural areas are usually received in the third phase.
After that, counting centers get the records from the jungle, whose transfer is more difficult due to weather conditions or, in some cases, due to the need for aircraft.
Finally, packages with overseas ballots land in the country. They are expected to arrive starting Tuesday.
