Peru's national team holds the 22nd position in the latest World Ranking published on Thursday by Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Thus, the red-white squad has become the sixth best team of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), after Brazil (2nd), Argentina (6th), Uruguay (13th), Colombia (15th), and Chile (20th).

This rise comes after Peru's participation at the 2021 Copa America tournament, in which the team's good performance helped it climb five spots in the FIFA ranking.

After finishing fourth at Copa America, the Incas climbed some spots in the FIFA standings. Now, Peru ranks 22nd, thus becoming the sixth best South American team.

It must be noted that Belgium remains atop FIFA world ranking, despite the lack of good performances in recent months, whereas the current European champions, Italy, ranked fifth.

In the Conmebol zone, Brazil ranks first, while Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, and Chile stay ahead of Peru. Gareca's side is followed by Paraguay, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Bolivia.

As is known, World Cup 2022 qualifiers in September and October will run as triple match days; so, good results may improve even more Peru's position in the world ranking.
