Defense Minister Nuria Esparch and
Interior Minister Jose Elice were in the principal avenues and strategic locations throughout Lima and Callao on Saturday night, supervising the control work done by law enforcement officers to verify the compliance with the mandatory social immobilization (curfew) decreed by the Government within the framework of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
As is known,
the nighttime curfew in Metropolitan Lima and Callao region was brought forward to 9:00 p.m. as both areas face a high-level risk linked to a second COVID-19 wave.
Additionally, the use of private vehicles in Metropolitan Lima and Callao was restricted on Sundays. Both measures are in force until January 31.
The oversight began in the corner of La Marina and Sucre Avenues, in Lima's Pueblo Libre district, where some businesses, such as restaurants, grocery stores, and street vending kiosks were still open to the public.
They were immediately intervened by the National Police, with the support of members of the Peruvian Navy.
Drivers of vehicles and motorcycles, who were found moving without the corresponding labor and driving permits, were also intervened.
Afterwards, the authorities patrolled Bolivar Avenue, La Bandera Roundabout, and Universitaria Avenue.
Then, the monitoring continued through Faucett Avenue (in Callao). After that, they headed to Northern Lima, passing through Venezuela, Tomas Valle, Universitaria, Panamericana Norte, Tupac Amaru, and Canta Callao Avenues, in the districts of San Martin de Porres, Independencia, Los Olivos, and Comas.
