Peru: Mining exports total US$35.611 billion, up 59.7% between January and May

Peruvian mining exports reached US$35.611 billion between January and May 2026, a 59.7% increase from the same period last year, when they totaled US$22.304 billion, the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) reported.

The association explained that this result was mainly driven by the higher value of exports of copper (+US$5.951 billion), gold (+US$5.311 billion), and lead (+US$1.326 billion).

The SNMPE reported that copper exports totaled US$16.417 billion between January and May, up 56.9% from US$10.466 billion recorded in the same period of 2025.

Meanwhile, gold exports totaled US$13.241 billion in the first five months of the year, up 67% from US$7.930 billion recorded in the same period in 2025.

The SNMPE also noted that copper accounted for 46.1% of mining exports value, while gold represented 37.2%.

The association added that mining products accounted for 75.2% of the Peruvian exports' total value between January and May this year.

May results

In May 2026, mining exports totaled US$7.085 billion, a 54.4% increase from US$4.588 billion recorded in the same month of 2025.

Copper exports totaled US$3.319 billion, up 53.2% from US$2.167 billion recorded in May 2025.

The SNMPE explained that this result was driven by a 6.4% increase in export volume and a 44% rise in the metal's price.

Meanwhile, gold exports reached US$2.487 billion in May, up 54.6% from US$1.609 billion recorded in the same month of 2025.

The increase was driven by a 10.9% rise in export volume and a 39.4% increase in the metal's international price.
