Peru: Mining exports exceed US$42.692 billion in 1H 2026

08:59 | Lima, Oct. 7.

Peru's mining exports reached US$42.692 billion in the first half of this year, up 55% from the same period in 2025, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) reported.

"This result was driven mainly by gold and copper exports, strategic minerals that are attractive in international markets, as well as important to the technology industry and the energy transition," Minem underscored.

In this regard, it noted that mining is consolidating its position as the country's main source of foreign currency and an essential source of export earnings.

According to Minem's Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM), mining shipments accounted for 75.6% of national exports' total value during the first half of the year.

In June alone, mining exports totaled US$6.503 billion, a 34.1% increase from the same month last year, driven by high international prices for major metals, as well as market supply and demand conditions that boosted the value of key products in the mining basket.

In the first half of 2026, silver exports increased 133.2%, followed by lead (113.5%), iron (83.6%), gold (62%), and copper (53.3%), amid growing demand for minerals used in power grids, renewable energy, data centers, and other technologies.

During this period, mining exports were characterized by a marked concentration in copper, gold, lead, and zinc, which together accounted for approximately 93% of mining shipments' total value and 70.3% of Peruvian exports.

"This outlook underscores Peru's strategic importance. Amid growing interest among major economies in securing supplies of minerals needed to develop new technologies and advance the energy transition, the country maintained a relevant position within global supply chains," Minem emphasized.
