Impressive pre-Hispanic metallic objects that belonged to an important person were unearthed as part of the research conducted at the archaeological site of Yuraq Rumi Ñusta Hispana, located in the district of Vilcabamba in La Convencion province, the Decentralized Culture Directorate (DDC) in Cusco has revealed.

In total, 38 finely crafted pieces were unveiled: four ceremonial vessels, a bracelet, four wristbands, two knives, 18 pectoral beads, a folded pectoral, a headband, six vases, and a headdress, which were discovered with remains of the Ñusta Hispana site's soil.

The objects were found about 30 centimeters deep and are associated with a retaining wall of the agricultural terrace, which will undergo a process of restoration and enhancement.

DDC-Cusco Chief Maritza Rosa Candia confirmed that the pieces will undergo a preventive conservation process at the cabinet for samples and collections, and will be analyzed at the physical-chemical laboratory for the proper care.

Iconography, dates, and uses

"The experts will carry out the corresponding studies to determine, for example, the chemical composition of the metal or alloy, the iconography, dates, uses, and other aspects to establish their origin," she said.

Nicolas Alvino, the person responsible for the archaeological investigation at Yuraq Rumi Ñusta Hispana, told Andina news agency that the pieces were initially protected in a small cabinet, but comprehensive treatment is necessary for their preservation.

"We cannot say what culture or what character these pieces belong to. That will be determined through desk research," he said.

However, Alvino affirmed that they are convinced this is a very important person based on the details they found.
