00:00 | Ayacucho (Ayacucho region), Apr. 6.
Amid deep religious fervor and a highly emotional atmosphere, the Andean city of Ayacucho marked the end of its Holy Week celebrations with the Lord of the Resurrection's imposing procession, which gathered thousands of worshippers and visitors at the Main Square.
From the early hours of Sunday, faith was evident throughout the historic center.
At 5:00 a.m., following a Mass held at Ayacucho Cathedral, the majestic platform bearing the image of the risen Jesus Christ began its journey from the atrium, moving slowly around the Main Square's perimeter, accompanied by a crowd that continuously expressed devotion.

The platform, considered one of the largest in the world, reached remarkable dimensions: nearly 11 meters in height, 5 meters in length, and weighing between 12 and 15 tons.
Moving it required the coordinated effort of between 350 and 700 bearers, who, with visible exertion, carried on their shoulders the triumphant Christ's image, adorned with candles and fine details that illuminated the chilly morning in the city.

The Main Square's perimeter was completely packed.
Entire families, domestic and foreign tourists, along with worshippers arriving from different regions, gathered hours in advance to secure a spot, either at street level or on balconies, from where they followed every moment of the procession with reverence.

The procession, which lasted until approximately 7:00 a.m., concluded at the cathedral atrium, where a solemn Mass was held and presided over by Ayacucho Archbishop Salvador Piñeiro. He officiated the liturgy in Spanish and Quechua, reinforcing the region's spiritual and cultural ties.
During these celebrations, held from March 26 to April 5, Ayacucho welcomed around 40,000 tourists, once again consolidating its status as one of the country's most important destinations for experiencing Holy Week.
