Peru's Justice and Human Rights Minister Fernando Castañeda has delivered 7 tons of medicines and personal protective equipment to strengthen containment measures as part of the emergency response to covid-19.

The minister met with the Covid-19 Multisectoral Platform, comprising the regional governor and principal authorities, with whom he coordinated actions and reaffirmed his commitment to continue working together in order to tackle the disease.

The batch of aid was handed over to the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) for its distribution among hospitals and health workers, as well as to the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) for security agents and inmates at prisons within the region.

Regarding the provision of materials, the Cabinet member announced plans to deliver additional supplies.

Unity

During the meeting with regional, local and health authorities, Castañeda recalled that the national government has called for unity, adding that the virus is the only enemy.

In this sense, he acknowledged that both the Central and regional governments have made efforts to tackle and reduce the impact of the disease on the population.

"We operate as a team here. We all have to make our contribution from our area of expertise," the government official emphasized.
