Peru: JNE reaffirms electoral process transparency and independence

01:00 | Lima, Apr. 12.

National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Roberto Burneo stated that his institution guarantees the transparency, independence, and legality of the electoral process scheduled for this Sunday.

Within this framework, he urged political actors to await results calmly and respect the will of the people.

In a message marking the electoral process, the JNE head said Peruvians should make the General Elections an exemplary exercise.

"Let Peru show the world its democratic maturity, civic spirit, and hope for the future," he noted.

"I urge all political actors to act with democratic responsibility, to await the results calmly, and to respect the will of the people expressed at the ballot box. Democracy is strengthened through respect, tolerance, and responsibility," Burneo stated.

The JNE head indicated that Peru is called upon to demonstrate its strength, unity, and commitment to democracy.

In that context, he said citizens should vote responsibly, proudly, and confidently that every vote will be respected.

Likewise, Burneo called on voters to cast their ballots in an informed, conscious, free, and secret manner, as a guarantee of an authentic and responsible decision.

Transparency, independence, and legality

The JNE chairman underscored that the institution he leads guarantees the transparency, independence, and legality of the ongoing electoral process.

"From the National Elections Board, as the electoral system's governing body, we firmly guarantee the transparency, independence, and legality of the entire electoral process. This commitment is not only institutional; it is a deep conviction that guides each of our actions," he said.

Burneo also highlighted the JNE personnel's dedication, professionalism, and commitment nationwide, supported by oversight teams deployed at every stage of the process to ensure compliance with the rules and respect for the popular will.

"Because that is our duty and our promise: to work so that every vote is respected, so that every citizen decision counts and is faithfully reflected in the results," he said.

The JNE head reminded citizens that voters will elect the president and two vice presidents of the Republic, 60 senators, and 130 deputies, who will form the new bicameral Congress, as well as representatives to the Andean Parliament.

"I wish to recognize the strong civic spirit of the Peruvian people, civil society, political organizations, and the candidates, who are called upon to contribute to a peaceful electoral process based on respect and responsibility," Burneo stated.

"I call on our polling station members to carry out their important duties with punctuality and commitment," he concluded.
