The National Elections Board (JNE) has issued accreditations to 150 observers from international organizations to verify —both in Peru and abroad— the development, probity, and transparency of the presidential runoff election scheduled for June 6.

According to a report by the JNE's Office of Cooperation and International Relations, the Organization of American States (OAS) has the largest number of observers in Peru: 34.

These observers come from Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Ecuador, the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, as well as Spain and Switzerland.

In addition, the OAS has more than 200 information relays, whose main function is to assist in the observation carried out by the organization's electoral observation mission.

Therefore, its members will collect information on the acts subject to observation during Election Day as mentioned in Article 9 of the Regulations for Observers of Electoral Processes (ROPE).

These acts are the installation of voting tables; conditioning of voting booths; verification carried out by polling station members on the conformity of ballots, the amphorae and any other electoral material; development of the voting day; scrutiny and counting, among others.

Likewise, 20 members of the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (UNIORE) and 14 of the Ecuadorian Human Rights Committee (CEDHUS) will review the various stages of the election in the country.

Similarly, the Electoral Observatory of the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPAL) deployed eight members, while the Inter-American Federation of Lawyers (FIA) did the same with six members.

The Ibero-American Association of Jurists and the Mercosur Parliament's Democracy Observatory will deploy five participants each, while the European Union delegation in Peru will send three members.

In turn, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps in Peru will be composed of one and four members, respectively.

To verify the development and results of voting abroad, the OAS designated six delegates, the Institute of Democracy and Elections (IDEMOE) did the same with 23 members, the Association of Defenders of the People of the Argentine Republic (ADPRA) appointed 21 and the Inter-American Federation of Lawyers (FIA) appointed one delegate.

All international electoral bodies and organizations will make it possible to report to the national and international community on the fairness of the election and the unquestionable results.

For the sake of transparency, at the request of the JNE, international delegations are empowered to observe the installation of voting tables and the operation of voting booths, as well as the scrutiny and counting of votes, among other activities, during the Election Day.

As is known, Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular) will face Pedro Castillo (Peru Libre) in the presidential runoff election on June 6.
