Peru's net international reserves (NIR) totaled US$95.746 billion as of October 5, 2026, representing a 3.86% increase compared with the level recorded at the end of September 2026, according to information from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR).
This amount is equivalent to 26% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), the monetary authority said.
NIR totaled US$92.180 billion at the end of September this year.
Compared with the US$90.214 billion recorded at the end of 2025, international reserves increased by US$3.566 billion as of October 5, 2026, representing a 6.13% rise.
The amount recorded as of October 5 also exceeded the figure at the end of 2025, when net international reserves totaled US$90.214 billion.
In the face of El Niño
It is worth noting that Peru's NIR, amid domestic and global conditions, help the country cope with El Niño, mitigating its impact on the national economy by bolstering macroeconomic stability.
Thus, NIR are one of the main pillars of Peru's macroeconomic stability, University of the Pacific Economic Professor Eduardo Falen indicated.
"Its purpose is to provide financial backing that enables the Central Reserve Bank to respond to episodes of market volatility, preserve the orderly functioning of the foreign exchange market, and strengthen the confidence of investors and economic agents," he recently stated.
The academician noted that the Central Reserve Bank's sound monetary policy management has enabled the Peruvian currency to remain one of the most stable so far this century.
Financial backing
International reserves consist of diversified investments in liquid international assets and contribute to the country's economic and financial stability.
The management of international reserves is entrusted to the Central Reserve Bank under Article 84 of Peru's Political Constitution and follows the principles of security, liquidity, and profitability established in Article 71 of its Organic Law.
It is important to bear in mind that NIR serve as a guarantee and support fund in the face of international economic crises.
