18:37 | Lima, Feb. 13.

Peru will be the guest of honor at ARCOmadrid 2019, an international contemporary art fair slated to take place on February 27-March 3.

IFEMA Managing Director Eduardo Lopez-Puertas, ARCOmadrid Co-Directors Carlos Urroz and Maribel Lopez, as well as Peruvian Ambassador Claudio de la Puente Ribeyro were present at the official program presentation.

The Inca country's diplomat noted the joint work undertaken by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the support from Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), the work of the Peruvian Embassy in Spain, as well as the curatorial labor of Sharon Lerner (contemporary art curator at Lima Art Museum) and Parallel Program Coordinator Fietta Jarque.

'Peru at ARCO' will be one of the main attractions at the fair.

23 Peruvian artists, represented by galleries from different countries, have been selected by Sharon Lerner to participate in this program.

Peru at ARCO will be presenting internationally recognised artists such as Fernando Bryce, Teresa Burga, Sandra Gamarra, Miguel Aguirre, Antonio Paucar, Herbert Rodriguez, Elena Damiani, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Jose Vera Matos, Carlos Runcie Tanaka, and Rita Ponce de Leon.

The participation of Peru as a guest country consolidates ARCOmadrid's position as a Latin American benchmark in Europe.

Ambassador de la Puente indicated this event marks the beginning of the Inca country's Independence Bicentennial celebration.

"Peruvians know that many and very profound links unite us with Spain. Plus, our excellent diplomatic and cooperation bonds, economic dynamism, and the presence of both countries of numerous and active communities are strengthened by Peruvian art's exceptional presence in Madrid," the official expressed.
