12:00 | Lima, Jan. 2.

The 2023-2024 grape exports campaign started on the right foot, since shipments abroad totaled US$210.636 million last October, registering a 116% expansion compared to the same month of 2022, the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex) has reported.

The United States (US$85.827 million) was positioned as the leading market, representing 40.7% of the total and an increase of 217.9%.

Ranked second was the Netherlands (US$39.543 million), accounting for 18.8% and experiencing an increase of 121.1%.

They were followed by the United Kingdom (US$20.798 million), Mexico (US$20.657 million), and Canada (US$9.279 million).

The top ten was completed by the Dominican Republic, Spain, Colombia, Guatemala, and Honduras.

The largest increases in the top 20 were experienced by Mexico (302.8%), Indonesia (251.2%), the United States (217.9%), the Dominican Republic (139%), the Netherlands (121.1%), and El Salvador (120%).

It should be noted that Peru ships mostly Red Globe variety grapes; however, others have been gaining relevance in recent years, such as Superior Seedless, Crimson Seedless, Flame Seedless, Sweet Celebration, and Thompson Seedless.

The company Sociedad Agrícola Rapel led the grape exports ranking. It was followed by Ecosac Agrícola, El Pedregal, Pura Fruit Company, Complejo Agroindustrial Beta, Empresa Agrícola San Juan, San Miguel Fruits Perú, Agrocasagrande, Camposol, Procesadora Laran, among others.

Accumulated figures

According to figures from the Adex Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System, grape shipments amounted to US$899.203 million between January and October 2023, registering an increase of 30.3% over the same period in 2022 (US$689.899 million).

Their main destination was the United States (US$408.381 million), followed by the Netherlands (US$105.285 million), Mexico (US$82.708 million), Hong Kong (US$58.011 million), and China (US$43.883 million).

It must be noted that table grape shipments to Japan have taken place for the first time (US$1.746 million).

In March 2023, Peruvian grapes received authorization to enter the Land of the Rising Sun, thanks to a joint effort by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru), Peru's Trade Office in Japan (OCEX Japan), and the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa).

Shipments to other markets, such as the United Arab Emirates, Ivory Coast, and Kuwait also resumed. They were worth US$430,330; US$36,480; and US$31,920; respectively.

Grapes are characterized by their sweet and refreshing flavor. Grapes are widely consumed for their nutritional properties, as they contain iron, which prevents anemia and strengthens the immune system.
