The
President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday affirmed that the current Government has secured more than 61 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and keeps negotiating with laboratories so that the next administration can be assured that all citizens will be vaccinated.
"We continue negotiating with other laboratories to get more vaccines so that the next Government can be fully and absolutely assured that everyone will be vaccinated more than once," he stated.
The Head of State also mentioned that the country's vaccination rate has gradually ramped up to more than 100,000 people a day, with a record of 161,000 doses administered in a single day.
"If we keep up this pace, all the elderly as well as almost all the people with comorbidities will have been vaccinated by July 28, when we leave office, as is already occurring," he remarked.
In this regard, the President reported that the vaccination of women over the age of 18 who are at least 28 weeks pregnant will begin on Saturday, June 12.
The Peruvian leader emphasized that, so far, 4,700,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the country.
Additionally, he confirmed that a new batch of 95,000 Pfizer vaccine doses will arrive in the country today. The shipment will be received by Defense Minister Nuria Esparch.
His remarks were made during a visit to the National Sports Village (Videna), where he supervised the vaccination process against COVID-19.
