The Executive Branch has allocated more than S/88 million (around US$25 million) to deliver food to the most vulnerable families in Lima and Callao, according to
Emergency Decree No. 068-2020 published in El Peruano official gazette.
According to the
Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), the aim is to provide complimentary food support to 714,000 people that live in the 200,000 most vulnerable households, located in more than 4,000 human settlements without basic services.
Municipalities —in coordination with social organizations— will identify the blocks and households, as they monitor the food distribution.
In addition, the agenda includes working meetings with the Comptroller General of the Republic, as well as representatives of the private sector and churches, who will join the initiative.
According to the regulation, the
National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) will be responsible for the acquisition and distribution of foodstuffs, as part of its humanitarian assistance to deal with emergencies that are beyond the response capacity of local and regional governments.
The priority districts —because of their vulnerable populations— are Ventanilla, Mi Peru, Ancon, Santa Rosa, Comas, Puente Piedra, Carabayllo, Independencia, Rimac, San Martin de Porres, San Juan de Lurigancho, and Cieneguilla.
The list also includes Lurigancho-Chosica, Ate, San Juan de Miraflores, Villa Maria del Triunfo, Villa El Salvador, Chorrillos, Pachacamac, Lurin, Punta Negra, Punta Hermosa, San Bartolo, and Pucusana.
