Interior Minister Juan Jose Santivañez on Friday announced that the Government has decided to include Santa Rosa and Rimac, in the capital city, among the districts of Lima and Callao declared in state of emergency to combat crime.

The districts initially declared in state of emergency are: Ate, Villa El Salvador, Ancon, Puente Piedra, Carabayllo, Comas, Independencia, San Martin de Porres, Los Olivos, San Juan de Lurigancho, and Lurigancho-Chosica (Lima), plus Ventanilla (Callao region).

The Cabinet member pointed out that the declaration of emergency is a response to an analysis conducted by the Peruvian National Police (PNP) regarding the incidence of criminal presence in the jurisdictions considered.

Santivañez said the effectiveness of this declaration will depend on the operations carried out by the PNP.

Similarly, he reminded citizens that the Armed Forces will support the police institution in this situation.

The high-ranking official also welcomed the creation of four specialized prosecutor's offices by the Public Ministry.

Lastly, he emphasized that the request from his office was to implement one, but ultimately a quantitatively superior response was obtained.
