The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, led the ceremony for the signing of an agreement between the Navy Industrial Services (SIMA) and Hyundai Heavy Industries for the co-development of the technical dossier for future acquisition of submarine units.

The event brought together representatives of the Peruvian Navy and the aforementioned company.

It marked the formal start of the process to modernize the submarine fleet—crucial for the South American country's maritime defense—as part of the government's explicit commitment to strengthening this military institution.

This agreement will enable technological co-development and the transfer of technological capabilities, construction processes, quality control, and maintenance from Hyundai Heavy Industries—one of the world's leading shipyards—to SIMA.

Additionally, the future local co-production will strengthen the Peruvian shipbuilding industry and increase the involvement of domestic suppliers.

The technical dossier for the future acquisition of submarines includes a collaborative design, a technology transfer plan, and national industrial preparation, which will serve as the technical foundation for the co-production of new units.

The signing of this agreement, held at Callao Naval Base, took place within the framework of Peru–South Korea strategic cooperation.

Plans are expected to include training in the Asian country, the presence of Hyundai experts in Peru, and programs for local suppliers.
