Peru: FA Minister's trip to U.S. APEC authorized

The Executive Branch has authorized the trip, on official duty, of Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea to the city of San Francisco, United States, from November 13 to 18, 2023.

This measure was made official via Supreme Resolution No. 169-2023-PCM published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Saturday.

During his absence, the Foreign Affairs Office will be entrusted to Prime Minister Alberto Otarola.

Official Duty

Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea's trip will allow him to accompany President Dina Boluarte at the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum Economic Leaders' Meeting and related events to be held in the city of San Francisco, such as the APEC CEO Summit and the APEC Economic Leaders Dialogue with the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).

Likewise, the Cabinet member will participate in the APEC Joint Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Trade (AMM). It will also take place in San Francisco.

"The aforementioned meetings will mark the conclusion of the APEC forum Presidency currently held by the United States of America and the transfer of said Presidency to Peru. Thus, the participation of our country is of special importance," the document reads.

The Peruvian government official will also accompany the top official at various meetings she will hold with private sector senior executives, at which there will be the opportunity to spread the thematic priorities to be promoted during Peru's APEC forum Presidency.
