The Peruvian Government on Friday expressed its sorrow to the Emirati people for the lamentable death of United Arab Emirates President, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

"Peru expresses deepest lament to the Emirati Government and people for the passing of the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan," the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on its official Twitter account.

In this message, the agency indicated that the leadership of this dignitary had contributed to strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.

The death of the emir and president occurred at age 73. Thus, 40 days of official mourning have been declared by the UAE.

UAE Prime Minister and Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will hold the presidency provisionally until the Federal Council (composed of rulers of the seven emirates that make up the federation) elects a new president.
