The Peruvian Government has extended its solidarity to the Government and people of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana following the tragic sinking of the MV Barima ferry last Saturday.
"While expressing its solidarity, Peru wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this tragedy. It also hopes that the rescue operations being carried out by the Guyanese authorities will succeed in finding alive those who remain missing," the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated via social media.
At least 27 people were killed and 83 others remain missing after a ferry with more than 100 people on board capsized off the coast of Guyana last weekend, Prime Minister Mark Phillips said on Monday.
"At this stage of the operation, the number of rescued persons, including passengers and crew, is now 69," the official reported.
A total of 27 bodies have been recovered so far.
"The latest report suggests an additional 83 persons are still to be found," Phillips told reporters during a press conference.
