Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) Executive-President Fiorella Molinelli revealed that she has presented —to the Executive Branch— a massive vaccination plan against COVID-19 in 7 macro-regions.
"The points of care are being identified. The logistics will be apportioned between the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and EsSalud. We will look for large open spaces for providing results in seven days," she said during a vaccination campaign against influenza and pneumococcal infection aimed at the elderly in Lima's San Miguel district.
Moreover, she said the Social Health Insurance System is prepared to deal with a possible wave of infections, due to the implementation of new hospital infrastructure in the country with the launch of 22 EsSalud Villages.
"We are prepared to tackle a second wave of infections. We have improved our hospital supply from the outset. Now, we have a significant number of beds throughout the country. 75% of EsSalud's available infrastructure is now being used to treat COVID-19 patients," she explained.
According to the EsSalud representative, intensive care unit (ICU) beds are still occupied, although the number of hospitalized patients is decreasing.
Eight regions
"At present, the positivity rate has decreased by 50% in eight regions. The pace of reduction is slower in southern Peru. The rate has dropped by 25%," she stated.
At the same time, the EsSalud Te Cuida (EsSalud Takes Care of You) campaign is being implemented across the country to detect COVID-19 at an early stage in order to avoid complications and refer patients to ICU.
