Peru: Education Min heads APEC Human Resources Development Working Group

09:49 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), May. 6.

Education Minister Morgan Quero on Sunday participated in the 49th Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG) and related meetings —within the framework of APEC Peru 2024.

The event was held at Cerro Juli Convention Center in Arequipa, southern Peru.

It addressed the topic "Bridging the informal and formal economy: promoting investment in the inclusive and equitable development of human resources in the Asia-Pacific region."

It refers to the APEC Peru 2024 motto "Empowering people and companies for inclusive and sustainable growth," which proposes, among other priorities, working towards trade and investment for inclusive and interconnected growth.

This priority is focused on strengthening open, free, and inclusive trade, which fosters economic growth that encompasses various sectors of society, promoting inclusion and guaranteeing long-term sustainability.

The Education Ministry's (Minedu) head mentioned that sustainable and equal access to education, employment, and training —including technical careers and vocational training— enables more people to reach their greatest potential.

"When talking about sustainable, balanced, safe, and inclusive growth, we have to consider everyone, thus leaving no one behind. Our societies are diverse, but they must be better integrated. We must aim for social cohesion, starting with our own economies," he emphasized.

Quero indicated that the barriers faced by people with disabilities and those with reduced mobility in cities are multiple. Thus, universal design should be considered as the path towards eliminating those obstacles, he said.

The Cabinet member also recalled that the effort to achieve accessible and inclusive cities is everyone's duty and must be fulfilled in a coordinated manner.

"We are all subjects of law, we are all agents of change, and everyone, absolutely everyone, must commit to achieving inclusive and accessible cities," he expressed.
