More than 400 inhabitants of Amazonian indigenous communities within the city of Breu, capital of Yurua district (Ucayali region), received medical care as part of the actions organized by the Coronel Portillo Health Network (Diresa Ucayali) within the framework of the state of health emergency due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to the
Ministry of Culture, the assistance was provided in fields like general medicine, obstetrics, nursing, as well as in laboratory services.
The medical services were provided to indigenous peoples of Yaminahua, Asheninka and Ashaninka.
Moreover, the aid included COVID-19 tests, comprehensive medical care of confirmed cases, the implementation of epidemiological fences and vaccination.
Culture Ministry's intercultural facilitators took part in the medical evaluations in order to ensure adequate health care with cultural relevance for indigenous citizens, respecting their customs and mother tongue.
The towns that benefited from these actions include Breu, El Dorado, Paititi, Nueva Bella and Dulce Gloria, which are located in Yurua and Huacapistea River Basins in the border with Brazil.
The Ministry of Culture affirmed that the interventions carried out in these localities contribute to improving health care for indigenous peoples in isolation and initial contact within the Murunahua Indigenous Reserve in Yurua district.
