As a responsibility not only to the city but also to Peru, as well as to national and foreign tourists, Cusco celebrates its jubilee with joy, enthusiasm, and color, but also with great caution, considering the COVID-19 health emergency is still in effect.

According to Cusco Province Mayor Victor Medina, between 50,000 and 60,000 visitors are expected to arrive in the Inca city.

By doing so —he said— the tourist and economic recovery process is being revitalized to achieve pre-pandemic levels in the future.

"We have been hit by the economic crisis for two years, but despite this, I believe that human effort always prevails," the municipal authority said in an interview with Andina News Agency.

He emphasized that the jubilee is being celebrated again with color, joy, as well as the enthusiasm typical of Cusco and its inhabitants.

The mayor pointed out that organizing these festivities right now implies some restrictions and security measures because the COVID-19 health emergency is still in effect, noting that we need to find a way out of it and move forward.

"Perhaps, we are experiencing some excesses and difficulties, but despite this, we are excited to ensure the best conditions to welcome tourists," he said.

Medina underscored that people await tomorrow's parade and the Inti Raymi ceremony at the Archaeological Complex of Sacsayhuaman on Friday, adding that everything has taken place in a quiet atmosphere.
