Peru: Congress authorizes President's trip to Bolivia

During a plenary session on Thursday, Congress authorized President Pedro Castillo to travel abroad to participate in the next Bolivia-Peru Presidential Meeting and VI Binational Ministerial Cabinet set to be held in the neighboring country's city of La Paz.

The legislative authorization resolution was approved with 84 votes in favor, 7 against, and 26 abstentions.

Thus, the Head of State will be abroad on October 30 of this year, the approved document read.

According to the request submitted by the Executive Branch, the Binational Ministerial Cabinet constitutes the highest instance of dialogue and political coordination with Bolivia. Since 2015, five presidential and binational cabinet meetings have been held.

Likewise, it refers that the work of the cabinets is developed in four thematic axes: environment and transboundary water resources; security and defense; economic development, social policies, and institutional strengthening; plus infrastructure for integration and development.
 
"On this occasion, there will be the participation of civil societies from both countries so as to contribute to the efforts of both governments with the aim of generating concrete actions in favor of the development and well-being of the populations, particularly those in the common border area," said the letter requesting authorization for the trip.

Precisely, presidential and binational cabinet meetings allow organizing the bilateral work agenda within the framework of political dialogue at the highest level, geared towards identifying priority issues of common interest, thus promoting a dynamic, orderly, and mutually beneficial work agenda.
